In the past 32 years we have been sheep farming at Broadmeadows, having brought it up from a very low place with broken down fences, neglected dry stone walls and poverty-stricken soil. It is now an optimum fertility, properly fenced and a well appointed unit.
We have been dedicated to planting an infrastructure of hedges, hard wood shelter belts, rebuilding dry stone dykes and renewing fences and gates. Having built up the base fertility of the low ground from a very low level to a level which fulfills the optimum grazing potential and will continue to do so.
These more fertile pastures provide a grazing opportunity benefiting 2 neighboring, hard working young farmers by a short term grazing let.
Alec Telfer boasts a remarkable four-decade tenure as a thriving livestock farmer. Furthermore, he has served as both an brand Ambassador for Forest Direct and President for The Blackface Sheep Breeders Association. Although Alec's children Kirsty & Euan aren't involved in farming, their deep attachment to their home, combined with his own health scare, prompted Alec to seek a transformative shift. This change was not just significant; it marked the beginning of a new adventure, a departure from convention, and the pursuit of Alec's lifelong dream to craft something innovative and establish a lasting legacy.
So now we have a newly established 650 acre highly diverse woodland with a commercial heart, 9.5km of rolling footpaths and 200 acres of prime grassland which is rented out on a grazing agreement to 2 neighboring enthusiast young farmers.
Alec fully embraced the enhancement of the environment and has made huge steps to contribute to the prevention of catastrophic climate change.
