Forestry at Broadmeadows

The decision to increase the commercial forestry potential at Broadmeadows came from the uncertainty surrounding the viable financial future of a traditionally farmed mid-sized hill farm. A  health scare had forced us to explore various forms of diversification while still maintaining a home here and an interest in the land.

By planting the hill and poorer upland pastures with predominantly commercial conifers, we were able to keep the poorer land in production for timber and retain the improved lower ground for agricultural purposes.

Broadmeadows Farm covered a total area of 577.21 hectares, of which 80.79 hectares were improved grassland suitable for cultivation in good fertile condition, and this land remained in agricultural production.

By April 2019, Borders Forestry Ltd run by Director Chris Reid and his team had planted 567,000 Saplings at Broadmeadows. His 13 years of forest industry experience, specialising in the forest establishment sector shows in the phenomenal standard of work carried out at Broadmeadows.

He established Borders Forestry Ltd 5 years ago, building an experienced tree planting team whose emphasis is on quality.
